2009 is shaping as a potentially difficult year in the area of financial advice, but one that may also present opportunities for growth within the adviser business.

Some life companies have already indicated to riskinfo a change in focus in 2009, placing a greater emphasis on working with advisers in the area of business retention rather than new product features and initiatives, while others have suggested their focus will be on rolling out new, more user friendly technology, to enable the adviser to operate a more productive and efficient business.

What will be your focus in 2009?  riskinfo wants to know whether you will be changing the priorities within your business in response to the current economic climate.

Will you…

  • Focus  more than previously on retention of your existing client business?
  • Place an even greater emphasis on generating new business?
  • Embrace new, more user friendly technology, to enhance business productivity?

A final comment about our last poll which we held either side of the Christmas New Year break…There was a late surge from advisers expressing an opinion that bonus payments for a history of low lapse rates would be a key area that would assist them build the value of their business.  So, if at least some companies may be focusing on retention issues in 2009, particularly because of changing economic circumstances, perhaps this may be one area worth considering…
