Life Risk Champion of the Year - Winner Announced

The 2009 risk store Life Risk Champion of the Year Award has been won by riskinfo founder, Peter Sobels. The announcement was made during the risk store’s 2009 Mastering the Pipeline Conference on the Sunshine Coast, which ends today.

Each year, this Award recognizes a number of individual contributors who, through their work in the past year within the industry, have advanced the cause of life insurance in Australia.

The two other finalists in the Awards were CommInsure’s Jeffrey Scott and MLC’s Fiona Navarro.

Mr Sobels said he was proud to receive the award, which recognised the contribution of the riskinfo news and information service to the life insurance industry, but he also acknowledged the other award finalists and nominees and all those whose passion and endeavours bring the message of the importance of risk insurance to the Australian community.

Sue Laing, Managing Director of the risk store, said “The importance of the life risk industry to the economy is arguably less understood and certainly less lauded than it should be.”

“The Life Risk Champion of the Year Award is the risk store’s way of turning that around.  We need to find, recognise and applaud those who truly champion the role that this industry plays as a whole,” said Ms Laing.

For those considering nominating a colleague for next year’s Life Risk Champion of the Year, the criteria for the Award describe the individual as:

  1. Identified as being associated with Life Risk issues in Australia
  2. Having a demonstrated enthusiasm and passion for Life Risk
  3. Having sound knowledge of the Life Risk industry in at least one significant area
  4. Having the will and capacity to influence and initiate welcome or necessary change and new ideas
  5. Having some kind of recognisable, direct or indirect distribution influence (doesn’t necessarily need to work in distribution)
  6. Contributing by their actions and/or role to the education of stakeholders, which could include:
  • Advisers
  • Licensee principals
  • Consumers
  • Insurers
  • Regulators
  • Associations
