Launch of New Growth Program for Advice Businesses

Consultant firm, Boss Management Group, has launched a new program designed to grow the value of service-based businesses.

The Strategic Growth Blueprint Program was developed by Boss Management Group MD, Jenny Stilwell, based on surveys received from hundreds of small to medium services businesses, including financial advice/financial planning firms.

This program is an ‘in-person’ program that allows participants to learn not only from key facilitators but also from the experiences of the other participants in the course.

The launch of this course comes at a time in the current economic cycle where feedback from various industry elements suggests that advisers are re-assessing the nature of the proposition they are presently offering their current and prospective clients, with some business models being shown to be ineffective in the prevailing environment.

While not designed solely for financial planning practices (but more so for broader-based ’services’ businesses), the material is particularly relevant for financial advisers wishing to consider new and different ways of positioning themselves and their business for growth.

Amongst other principles, this course will show business owners how to achieve sustainable growth under a new business model without the business owner personally responsible for delivering services every day. 

According the the management group, other goals of the program include enabling the adviser/business owner to:

  • Raise fees and increase income
  • Attract the sorts of ideal clients they want to work with
  • Clearly define the business’s ideal client, and avoid those that don’t fit the profile
  • Generate new revenue streams for the business
  • Design a framework that helps the business delegate and build an ‘A’ team to support its growth
  • Have a process to prioritise which opportunities to pursue and which ones to leave
  • Gain a competitive advantage that is unique to the business
  • Develop a marketing system that permeates every aspect of the business and works on auto-pilot

Ms Stilwell suggests this new way of considering business growth is no ordinary blueprint: “It has been specifically designed for reinventing how service firms approach growth. It will cause you to think completely differently about your business, and will provide you and your team a step by step map for the next 12 months,” said Ms Stillwell.

The initial Strategic Growth Blueprint Program will be based in Melbourne, commencing from 11 June 2009, however future programs are intended to be run nationally.
