New ‘Estate Planning’ Program Launched

The FPA has launched a new Estate Planning designation program, highlighting the growing importance of the need to offer advice in this area.

This move by the FPA recognises what it says is growing demand for specialised skills in the estate planning field, evidenced by the results of a recent survey of 400 advisers, which revealed:

  • 84% believe there is a need for specialist skills and knowledge in estate planning
  • 60% said that they would undertake studies in estate planning if a program was offered
… clients are aging and are thinking about intergenerational financial planning services

FPA CEO, Jo-Anne Bloch, neatly summed up this trend by observing, “Interest in Estate Planning is on the rise because clients are aging and are thinking about intergenerational financial planning services.”

The professional designation comprises three stages:

  1. Workshops: Run in conjunction with services provider, Estplan
  2. UTS Program: A joint venture between the FPA and the University of Technology Sydney
  3. FPA Professional Certification: Certification as a specialist in Estate Planning

More details about the inaugural program will be released by the FPA in January 2010.
