Advisers Lack ‘Process’ in Estate Planning

Leading Minds Academy co-founder, Brian Boggs, says the historic lack of a logical and defined process for personal estate planning advice has discouraged many advisers from participating in this key service element, leading to many missed opportunities to add value.  But he says there are solutions available.

According to Mr Boggs, the concept of estate planning, in the minds of many financial advisers, includes acknowledgement that various legal and other skills may often be needed in order to address and resolve their clients’ estate planning needs.  Because they may not possess the required qualifications and/or expertise, Mr Boggs says that many advisers step away from any involvement in the execution of these services.

In promoting the second in the Academy’s Thought Leadership online presentation series, to be released later this week, Mr Boggs insists that all advisers can play a crucial role in family estate planning by positioning themselves as the facilitator of the many elements that must be brought together in order to deliver the best solution for the client.  The key to helping advisers embrace family estate planning, according to Mr Boggs, is in providing them with a defined structure and process that will enable them to coordinate and facilitate those elements, as and when required.

This week’s Thought Leadership presentation, called Estate Planning Made Easy, features UK adviser, Eddie Lees, who has created a family estate planning process designed to be used by advisers in order to serve their clients.  Mr Boggs told riskinfo he believes that the process developed by Mr Lees (which he created following his own near-death experience) is an important starting point for advisers seeking to deliver greater value to their clients, while at the same time increasing their revenue opportunities.
