The new company – Valant Capital – is owned by Synchron Directors John Prossor and Don Trapnell and Valant Capital Director Dr John Morrison.

It will offer Synchron advisers investment, superannuation and pension accounts as well as 10 model portfolios via its High Wrap platform, which will be administered by Powerwrap Limited. Under this arrangement Powerwrap will provide a tailored version of its full service wealth management platform to Synchron’s 400 advisers.

The investment menu of the platform will allow Synchron advisers to recommend direct shares, managed accounts, managed funds, model portfolios but will also be able to report on non-custodial assets such as investment properties, art and other collectibles.

Lonsec Investment Solutions will act as the Asset Consultant to the Valant Capital Investment Committee for the model portfolios which will include five risk-based portfolios with different weightings to defensive and growth assets, and five sector portfolios representing Global Equities, Australian Equities, Australian Equities – income, Fixed Interest and Listed Property and Infrastructure.

The Valant Capital Investment Committee will comprises Prossor, Morrison and Lonsec Investment Solutions Chief Investment Officer, Lukasz De Pourbaix.

In a presentation given at a recent Synchron PD day it was stated the demand for a platform came from the group’s advisers with the platform designed to expand the investment side of the Synchron business. Despite this Synchron will remain agnostic about platform selection for its advisers

Earlier this year Trapnell indicated the group would move further in this direction to the point that non-insurance related advice made up 50% of the group’s income.
