The course will be offered via TAL’s Risk Academy and is presented by the head of the insurer’s Health Services team, Dr Sally Phillips. It will cover the staging, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cancer, minimum definitions for cancer set out by the Life Insurance Code of Practice and methods advisers can use to quantify the financial impact of cancer on their clients.

The course, which is available as an on-demand webinar carries one CPD point accredited through the AFA and FPA, and has been developed as part of TAL’s wider health strategy of sharing health expertise and medical best practice.

“We want to lead the industry in understanding medical conditions such as cancer, and one way we are doing this is by equipping our adviser partners with the knowledge and tools they need to get the best outcomes for clients that are at risk of, or faced with, cancer,” Phillips said.

“This course aims to up-skill advisers…so they can help clients choose the right insurance cover…and best support clients if they need to claim.”

In related news, TAL has received international recognition for its CoverBuilder platform that allows self-directed consumers to purchase life insurance.

TAL received the 2017 SMA Innovation in Action Award for the platform at a recent event in Boston, in recognition of its efforts to implement technology into the life insurance sales process.

The Award was presented by Strategy Meets Action (SMA), a US-based insurance strategic advisory firm, and recognises life insurers that are shifting into ‘Next-Gen Insurers’ through business and technology initiatives.

TAL CoverBuilder is the primary entry point for insurer’s digital offer to consumers and allows self-directed consumers to choose their options and build their own cover.
