The announcement was made by the AMP Board, and its chair Catherine Brenner, will lead the search which will consider internal and external candidates from Australia and overseas.

Brenner said Meller raised his departure at the end of 2018 with the AMP Board as part of its regular discussions on succession and they jointly agreed to begin the search for a successor.

“Our announcement is designed to ensure the search process can be as transparent and comprehensive as possible,” Brenner said.

“Craig will continue to drive the company and deliver on our strategy through 2018 and has indicated his flexibility to work with the Board to ensure a smooth and orderly leadership transition,” she added.

Meller said it was the right time to move to new leadership at AMP as it shifted into the next phase of growth and he would support the current strategy and Board until a successor had been appointed.
