FPA Claims Members Better Educated

FPA CEO Dante De Gori

Around 60 per cent of FPA members hold a degree qualification which is well above the industry standard of 35 per cent detailed at the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry, the FPA has claimed.

The Association made the statement off the back of input it has received from members regarding proposed changes to education standards which would ignore study completed to gain an industry designation (see: FPA Questions Advice Given to FASEA).

FPA members were asked to provide feedback on the changes, and the Association stated that more than 3,200 members have responded and of those, around 60 per cent held a degree, compared with 35 per cent across the wider advice sector.

FPA Chief Executive, Dante De Gori said the questionnaire results “…highlight our members’ commitment to voluntary self education, and demonstrate the merits of belonging to an association that fosters and promotes higher educational standards,” adding that a bachelor degree level education was necessary prior to being able to gain the Certified Financial Planner designation.

AFA Excellence in Education Award Nominations Open

The AFA has opened nominations for its annual Excellence in Education Awards which recognises advisers who have shown a commitment to education to better service clients and the advice sector.

Nominations for the Award opened on 18 April, and will close on 15 June , with finalists announced in mid-July and the winner announced at the AFA Adviser Conference in October.

AFA Chief Executive Phil Kewin said that despite the changes of the past few years “…what remains certain is the need for education to establish trust and certainty to an advice relationship. It is then up to the adviser to translate this through their skills, values, beliefs and habits”.

“Through our partnership with Asteron Life, the AFA is proud to be recognising the advisers going above and beyond to ensure they are best equipped to provide great advice to more Australians,” Kewin said.
