A year of Covid-19 has caused Americans to focus on their finances with more than half telling Harris Poll researchers it’s their top priority for 2021.

The online poll of 2,000 people, carried out for MDRT, reveals that 44% of those without a financial adviser say the financial impacts caused by the events of last year have made them realise the benefits of working with an adviser. This includes the groups hardest hit, such as 18-to-34-year-olds and 35-to-44-year-olds.

MDRT First Vice President Randy L. Scritchfield, says: “Staying attuned to societal, political and economic changes will always be a make-or-break skill in our industry, and this moment gives advisers the chance to separate themselves from the pack.”

Scritchfield says advisers now have a “great opportunity” to strengthen existing relationships and better engage with new and under-served markets.

“Advisers will have plenty of work on their hands,” he says.

Other results of the poll showed that Americans with advisers (33%) and those without an adviser (30%) named identifying and preparing for long-term financial goals is their top priority in working with a financial adviser this year.
