warned Professor Sullivan. “We either need to manage and reduce the costs or the cost will increase and then inequality rises between rich and poor.”

FPA Launches 2011 Conference Program

The Financial Planning Association (FPA) has launched its 2011 National Conference, saying the program has been designed to lift FPA members’ professional standards.

The Conference, which will be held from 16-18 November, will feature an appearance by the Minister for Financial Services and Superannuation, Bill Shorten, and a motivational speech by swimming champ, Kieren Perkins.

“We have themed this year’s Conference ‘Together we’re raising the bar’ because we recognise it will take a collective effort to transform the financial planning industry into a universally respected profession,” said Mark Rantall, FPA CEO. “The Conference offers FPA members an important opportunity to discuss and debate the many aspects of what it means to be a professional financial planner in the post-GFC era as well as working through practical means to achieve this in a post-FoFA world.”

AFS to Advisers – Get FoFA Ready Now

Advice businesses that are not already for preparing for Future of Financial Advice (FoFA) reforms may miss out on significant opportunity, according to Australian Financial Services Group (AFS).

“Dealer groups and advisers that have not yet embarked on their transformation journey will face a very bleak future indeed,” said AFS CEO and Managing Director, Peter Daly.

The comments came as AFS announced plans to ‘fast track’ a number of key projects and initiatives to take advantage of opportunities emerging from the reforms.

Mr Daly also advised that the group will immediately embark on a program of significant restructure and reinvestment, including an organisational wide review of compliance structure and systems.

He added that while merger talks had occurred, AFS would continue with its new direction and focus on long term strategic growth.

UK Initiative to Stop Automatic Annuity Rollovers

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has announced an initiative to encourage consumers to shop around for their annuity.

As part of a compulsory code to be introduced by the ABI, UK insurers will no longer be able to insert an annuity rollover form in communications to their existing customers.

According to Maggie Craig, ABI Director of Life and Savings, this practice has led to around one-third of consumers automatically rolling over their pension to their existing provider’s annuity product.

“The Association of British Insurers believes all consumers should shop around to maximise the income from their pension savings,” Ms Craig said. “However, not enough people shop around currently. This new industry initiative has been developed to make a significant difference to people’s retirement outcomes.”

Cost of Cancer on the Rise FPA Launches 2011 Conference Program AFS to Advisers –
