{"id":13331,"date":"2011-11-23T08:09:34","date_gmt":"2011-11-22T22:09:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=13331"},"modified":"2021-04-15T10:20:04","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T00:20:04","slug":"news-in-brief-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2011\/11\/23\/news-in-brief-26\/","title":{"rendered":"News in Brief"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>SG Increase Passed<\/li>\n<li>Special Insurance Offer for Aon Master Trust Members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">SG Increase Passed <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Bill to increase the\u00a0superannuation guarantee (SG) from 9% to 12% has been passed by the House of Representatives, despite the fact the majority of Coalition members voted against the Bill.<\/p>\n<p>The policy was passed by the House of Representatives on 22 November, with an amendment to remove the age limit on SG contributions.<\/p>\n<p>While voting against the Bill, the Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott, confirmed he would not overturn the policy.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a breakfast hosted by the Financial Services Council in Sydney on Friday, Mr Abbott said: &#8220;We are not instinctive supporters of mandatory superannuation contributions. \u00a0Our instinct is to provide incentives, not to coerce people.\u00a0 Nevertheless, once these things are there we don&#8217;t add to them but we don&#8217;t roll them back and that is the approach that we will take to the current legislation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We aren&#8217;t going to support it in the Parliament but if it goes through we will not try to rescind it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Bill will now move to the Senate for debate in 2012.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Special Insurance Offer for Aon Master Trust Members<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aon Master Trust has announced a special offer for its members to help them top-up their insurance cover without the need for medical underwriting.<\/p>\n<p>Under the arrangement, members can increase their death and TPD cover by up to $500,000 by completing a short, four question online form.<\/p>\n<p>Head of Retirement Products at Aon Hewitt, Peter Lewis, said the Master Trust was continually looking for ways to improve benefits for its members.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a special offer we have developed for our members with our insurer AIA Australia to help make sure that they&#8217;re not like the many Australians who are underinsured,&#8221; Mr Lewis said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know that a lot of our members realise they don&#8217;t have enough insurance and even those who plan to increase their cover often don&#8217;t get around to doing anything,&#8221; he said.\u00a0 &#8220;By offering them a quick and easy way to increase their cover, plus an incentive to act now, we think it will help them overcome their inertia.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SG Increase Passed Special Insurance Offer for Aon Master Trust Members<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-13331","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-general"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/13331","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/7"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=13331"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/13331\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=13331"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=13331"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=13331"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
