{"id":2324,"date":"2009-07-29T09:45:32","date_gmt":"2009-07-28T23:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=2324"},"modified":"2009-07-29T13:12:43","modified_gmt":"2009-07-29T03:12:43","slug":"advisers-against-limited-advice-in-super","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2009\/07\/29\/advisers-against-limited-advice-in-super\/","title":{"rendered":"Advisers Against Limited Advice in Super"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/polls\/limited-personal-advice-for-super-fund-members\" target=\"_self\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1228 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2009\/05\/vote-now.jpg\" alt=\"Vote Now!\" width=\"108\" height=\"47\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Advisers have indicated their\u00a0opposition to the recent news that super fund trustees may now offer limited personal advice to their superannuation fund members.<\/p>\n<p>Our latest poll results show 77% of advisers (at time of publishing) have answered &#8216;No&#8217; to the question:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Do you agree that superannuation fund trustees should be allowed to provide limited, single issue, personal advice to their superannuation fund members?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The general feeling amongst the adviser community is that it\u00a0seems there are now two different sets of rules under which advice can now be provided (&#8220;&#8230;<em>the goalposts have been moved<\/em>&#8220;).<\/p>\n<p>Advisers don&#8217;t seem to be saying they are concerned about more &#8216;mums and dads&#8217; having access to personal advice (which is the reason for ASIC&#8217;s decision to allow super trustees to provide limited personal advice), but rather that, even though the personal advice is limited to intra fund advice, super trustees are not required to &#8216;know their client&#8217; in order to give that advice.<\/p>\n<p>This comment from an adviser summarises the majority feeling:<\/p>\n<h6>How is someone going to advise on these things without having to know the client<\/h6>\n<p><em>Do I have enough Life insurance? Do you think I should have TPD or income Protection? Will I have enough super for when I retire? Is my super invested in the best place?
