{"id":24951,"date":"2014-02-11T15:29:38","date_gmt":"2014-02-11T05:29:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=24951"},"modified":"2014-02-11T16:44:36","modified_gmt":"2014-02-11T06:44:36","slug":"poll-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2014\/02\/11\/poll-results\/","title":{"rendered":"Poll Results"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"polls-113\" class=\"wp-polls\">\n\t\t<div class=\"pollHeader\"><strong>Should the term 'financial advice' be classified as either 'aligned' or 'non-aligned'?<\/strong><\/div><div id=\"polls-113-ans\" class=\"wp-polls-ans\"><ul class=\"wp-polls-ul\">\n\t\t<li>Yes <small>(74%)<\/small><div class=\"pollbar\" style=\"width: 74%\" title=\"Yes (74% | 68 Votes)\"><\/div><\/li>\n\t\t<li>No <small>(22%)<\/small><div class=\"pollbar\" style=\"width: 22%\" title=\"No (22% | 20 Votes)\"><\/div><\/li>\n\t\t<li>Not sure <small>(5%)<\/small><div class=\"pollbar\" style=\"width: 5%\" title=\"Not sure (5% | 5 Votes)\"><\/div><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul><div style=\"text-align: center\"><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t<input type=\"hidden\" id=\"poll_113_nonce\" name=\"wp-polls-nonce\" value=\"b7edd680a6\" \/>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Our latest poll results suggest there is significant adviser support for the notion that the term &#8216;financial advice&#8217; should be classified for consumers as either &#8216;aligned&#8217; or &#8216;non-aligned&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->As we go to print, 76% of advisers taking part in the poll agree that the aligned\/non-aligned distinction should be made to consumers who receive financial advice.\u00a0 18% disagree, while a few advisers are unsure.<\/p>\n<p>As we said last week, this poll is based on a suggestion made by Connect Financial Advice&#8217;s <strong>Paul Tynan<\/strong> that the aligned\/non-aligned distinction should be made to clients in the interests of offering greater transparency for the end-user and assisting them to appreciate the nature and scope of the financial advice being provided (see <a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2014\/02\/04\/consumers-taking-back-seat-to-self-interest\/\">Consumers Taking Back Seat to Self Interest<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h6>&#8220;Whether it be placed through an aligned or non-aligned provider is not of consequence. Ultimately it is not the product, it is the advice and strategies provided!&#8221;<\/h6>\n<p>Some adviser comments suggested the big financial institutions would not allow this kind of classification to occur.\u00a0 But, according to Mr Tynan&#8217;s definitions of aligned\/non-aligned, the difference between the two terms mostly relates to the &#8216;transferability&#8217; of the client book should the adviser move dealers.\u00a0 Under this definition, any self-employed adviser, regardless of who owns their licensee, would be considered non-aligned as long as their clients could move with them if and when they change dealers.<\/p>\n<p>Then again, we heard from other advisers who suggested this classification would make no difference to the client.\u00a0 Referring to the selection of a particular platform or investment, one adviser remarked:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Whether it be placed through an aligned or non-aligned provider is not of consequence.
