{"id":29623,"date":"2015-05-12T13:51:34","date_gmt":"2015-05-12T03:51:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=29623"},"modified":"2015-05-13T07:07:35","modified_gmt":"2015-05-12T21:07:35","slug":"aussies-value-formal-plan-over-performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2015\/05\/12\/aussies-value-formal-plan-over-performance\/","title":{"rendered":"Aussies Value Formal Plan Over Performance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">The element of an advice relationship most valued by Australian clients is the creation of a formal financial plan, new research has found.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Asset manager, Legg Mason, surveyed more than 4,200 investors in 20 countries, to identify the main benefits of an advice relationship. 59% of Australians said that creating a formal financial plan to achieve their goals was the best thing about working with an adviser.<\/p>\n<p>This finding was in contrast to the top benefit nominated by international investors, which was better investment performance.<\/p>\n<p>Other key benefits of working with an adviser identified by Australian clients were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Avoiding costly mistakes (46%)<\/li>\n<li>Having someone to manage their entire portfolio (43%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Legg Mason\u2019s Global Head of Distribution Marketing, <strong>Matt Schiffman<\/strong>, said the results demonstrated that Australians valued a structured approach to financial advice, with clear goals that made it easy to measure their success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAustralians are less focused on tracking the annual performance of the investments their adviser recommends as a measure of success,\u201d said Mr Schiffman. \u201cFor Australian investors, the experience of using an adviser is more about developing a long-term plan for financial independence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The survey also revealed that Australian usage of advisers was slightly lower than among global investors as a whole, with 27% of Australian investors saying they work with an adviser compared to 36% globally.
