{"id":32112,"date":"2016-01-19T15:01:44","date_gmt":"2016-01-19T05:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=32112"},"modified":"2016-01-20T06:26:54","modified_gmt":"2016-01-19T20:26:54","slug":"assistant-treasurer-has-treated-advisers-differently-than-institutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2016\/01\/19\/assistant-treasurer-has-treated-advisers-differently-than-institutions\/","title":{"rendered":"Assistant Treasurer has Treated Advisers Differently Than Institutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Assistant Treasurer has acted inconsistently in exposing independent advisers to widespread changes through the Life Insurance Framework while not addressing the problems caused by institutions according to the director of a financial advice group.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31548\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31548\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2015\/11\/Kelly-ODwyer.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-31548\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-31548\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2015\/11\/Kelly-ODwyer.jpg\" alt=\"Assistant Treasurer, Kelly O'Dwyer\" width=\"150\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31548\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Assistant Treasurer, Kelly O&#8217;Dwyer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Now Financial Group, director and adviser, <strong>Mark Dunsford<\/strong> has claimed the Assistant Treasurer, <strong>Kelly O\u2019Dwyer<\/strong>, has used selective information and misrepresented advisers in comments made concerning their education and professional standards.<\/p>\n<p>Dunsford pointed to a radio interview on 2UE in Sydney in December last year in which O\u2019Dwyer agreed that advisers did not need any qualifications to provide advice before stating that \u201c&#8230;most people in the sector are hardworking, very competent people but there are some people out there who don\u2019t have adequate training and who aren\u2019t giving proper advice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dunsford this showed a lack of understanding of the advice sector as well as a double standard given that most of the recent problems in the advice sector have not been caused by individual advisers who were already educated to current standards but by financial services institutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Assistant Treasurer, Ms O\u2019Dwyer would need to protect the big institutions.
