{"id":33123,"date":"2016-04-26T20:12:55","date_gmt":"2016-04-26T09:12:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=33123"},"modified":"2025-09-02T11:34:34","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T01:34:34","slug":"sunsuper-removes-waiting-periods-in-new-tpd-product","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2016\/04\/26\/sunsuper-removes-waiting-periods-in-new-tpd-product\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunsuper Removes Waiting Periods in New TPD Product"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunsuper has launched a new total and permanent disability (TPD) product which will remove waiting periods for most claims and offer annual support payments to people who claim but have not suffered a catastrophic event or long term debilitating disease.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_33127\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33127\" style=\"width: 151px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2016\/04\/Wanda-Britton-cropped.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-33127\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33127\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2016\/04\/Wanda-Britton-cropped.jpg\" alt=\"Sunsuper, Head of Product, Wanda Britton\" width=\"151\" height=\"175\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-33127\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sunsuper, Head of Product, Wanda Britton<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The new insurance product \u2013 TPD Assist \u2013 will be available from 1 July and has been in development for 18 months with the superannuation fund stating it focussed on early intervention, vocational rehabilitation and helping members return to work.<\/p>\n<p>Sunsuper, Head of Product, <strong>Wanda Britton<\/strong> said an indepth study of more than 1000 Sunsuper members who had previously been paid a TPD claim found that 36% returned to work or were actively seeking employment, while 69% wanted assistance in vocational rehabilitation, retraining or up-skilling and 66% wanted help finding a job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis really highlights that \u2018permanent\u2019 isn\u2019t necessarily forever, and that many of our members who have made a TPD claim want to return to work,\u201d Britton said.<\/p>\n<h6>\u201cThis really highlights that \u2018permanent\u2019 isn\u2019t necessarily forever, and that many of our members who have made a TPD claim want to return to work&#8221;<\/h6>\n<p>Britton said that with most waiting periods removed members who suffered an injury could begin the claims process on diagnosis of an injury and would receive benefits as well as a referral to a vocational rehabilitation specialist to work with the member, their employer and their treating doctor to support them with a tailored program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce the member is assessed as meeting the definition of being totally and permanently disabled, they will receive their cover in six equal annual support payments over five years &#8211;
