{"id":37965,"date":"2017-08-15T10:00:48","date_gmt":"2017-08-15T00:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=37965"},"modified":"2017-08-16T07:28:18","modified_gmt":"2017-08-15T21:28:18","slug":"risk-adviser-to-appeal-five-year-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2017\/08\/15\/risk-adviser-to-appeal-five-year-ban\/","title":{"rendered":"Risk Adviser to Appeal Five Year Ban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A financial adviser who has banned by ASIC for five years after failing to act in the best interest of clients has asked for the decision to be reviewed by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The regulator announced that it banned <strong>Travis Byron McLean<\/strong> of the Gold Coast, Queensland after it found he had also failed to comply with several financial services laws, stating these related to life insurance advice.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the banning ASIC Deputy Chair Peter Kell said, \u201cThe business model of simply &#8216;selling&#8217; life insurance without complying with the legal and regulatory obligations will not be tolerated by ASIC.
