{"id":38409,"date":"2017-09-21T09:34:49","date_gmt":"2017-09-20T23:34:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=38409"},"modified":"2017-09-21T09:58:10","modified_gmt":"2017-09-20T23:58:10","slug":"comminsure-to-be-sold-to-aia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2017\/09\/21\/comminsure-to-be-sold-to-aia\/","title":{"rendered":"CommInsure to be Sold to AIA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Bank (CBA) will sell its Australia and New Zealand life insurance businesses, CommInsure Life and Sovereign, to the AIA Group for $3.8 billion.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36319\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36319\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2017\/03\/annabelspring-cropped.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-36319\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-36319\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2017\/03\/annabelspring-cropped.jpg\" alt=\"Commonwealth Bank Group Executive Wealth Management, Annabel Spring\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36319\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Commonwealth Bank Group Executive Wealth Management, Annabel Spring<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The deal will see the two parties enter into a 20-year bancassurance arrangement with the CBA in Australia and ASB in New Zealand, with CBA retaining the CommInsure brand.<\/p>\n<p>CBA stated CommInsure Life and Sovereign customers would retain all the current benefits of their existing policies and would be still be able to access life insurance products through the Commonwealth Bank and life and health insurance products through ASB.<\/p>\n<p>The sale had been flagged by CBA in early August (see: <a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2017\/08\/09\/cba-examining-comminsure-sale\/\" target=\"_blank\">CBA Examining CommInsure Sale<\/a>) and CBA Chief Executive,\u00a0<strong>Ian Narev<\/strong> said the provision of life insurance to the bank\u2019s customers remained part of the its core vision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have said for some time that while distributing life insurance is a fundamental part of that strategy, we were open to different models for doing so,\u201d Narev said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe combination of AIA\u2019s leading insurance capability and scale and Commonwealth Bank\u2019s broad distribution, and our complementary values and commitment to customer focus and innovation, mean that a partnership between us will create an even better experience for our customers, in a more efficient way for our shareholders,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the sale, CBA Group Executive Wealth Management, <strong>Annabel Spring<\/strong> will leave the bank in December.
