{"id":39508,"date":"2018-01-12T14:15:07","date_gmt":"2018-01-12T03:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=39508"},"modified":"2025-09-02T11:33:58","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T01:33:58","slug":"aia-launches-cancer-wellness-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2018\/01\/12\/aia-launches-cancer-wellness-program\/","title":{"rendered":"AIA Launches Cancer Wellness Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AIA Australia has launched a return to wellness program for cancer patients under a new partnership with a global reinsurer and Australian occupational rehabilitation services provider.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_31007\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31007\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2015\/09\/Damien-Mu-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-31007\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2015\/09\/Damien-Mu-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-31007\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">AIA Australia and New Zealand CEO, Damien Mu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As part of the new initiative \u2013 titled RESTORE CaRe Positivum \u2013 AIA Australia has joined with Swiss Re and rehabilitation services provider IPAR to run a pilot program with 100 members of REST Industry Super to assist them in moving from the treatment phase of cancer back to wellness.<\/p>\n<p>The program will focus on overcoming barriers that prevent cancer patients from returning to wellness and will use AIA Australia\u2019s mental health program RESTORE CaRe as a base. It will add in IPAR&#8217;s wellness coaching model Positivum and will also build on experience gained by Swiss Re in delivering a rehabilitation service in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<h6>&#8220;We provide strategies and expert advice&#8230; to support these members back to wellness&#8230;&#8221;<\/h6>\n<p>AIA Australia and New Zealand Chief Exectuive, <strong>Damien Mu<\/strong> said the combined knowledge and practical experience of the program\u2019s partners would address the holistic needs of cancer patients in developing wellness and work readiness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur partners and their members have told us that it is often a big adjustment transitioning from the active stage of cancer treatment back into a normal routine,\u201d Mu said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen medical support suddenly ceases, the person recovering from cancer often struggles to return to a normal life.\u00a0Many are left with fatigue, &#8216;chemo fog&#8217;, deconditioning, and sometimes depression and anxiety. We provide strategies and expert advice to minimise these symptoms and to support these members back to wellness and eventually to work,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrevious research on our RESTORE program conducted in 2014 revealed some remarkable results: 84 per cent of participants improved their wellness, 86 per cent reported improved symptom management and 50 per cent recovered and returned to work from the three-month program.
