{"id":43604,"date":"2019-02-06T14:38:15","date_gmt":"2019-02-06T04:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=43604"},"modified":"2019-02-12T10:11:47","modified_gmt":"2019-02-12T00:11:47","slug":"government-to-consider-mandating-level-commissions-for-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2019\/02\/06\/government-to-consider-mandating-level-commissions-for-risk\/","title":{"rendered":"Government to Consider Mandating Level Commissions for Risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"cs-rp-wrap ui-sortable\"><span class=\"cs-it-wrap\"><span class=\"cs-el-wrap\">The Federal Government\u00a0 is contemplating the implementation of a flat life insurance commission structure in future, pending the outcome of ASIC&#8217;s review of the Life Insurance Framework reforms, due in 2021.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The Government&#8217;s position was outlined as part of its full response to the recommendations stemming from the final report of the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry.<\/p>\n<p>As already reported, ten of the 76 recommendations made by Commissioner Hayne in his final report related to financial advice (see: <a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2019\/02\/05\/royal-commission-on-financial-advice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Royal Commission Financial Advice Recommendations<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Recommendation 2.5 focused on the future of life insurance commissions, where the Comissioner&#8217;s recommendation states:<\/p>\n<p><em>When ASIC conducts its review of conflicted remuneration relating to life risk insurance products and the operation of the ASIC Corporations (Life Insurance Commissions) Instrument 2017\/510, ASIC should consider further reducing the cap on commissions in respect of life risk insurance products.
