{"id":46751,"date":"2019-10-11T09:23:35","date_gmt":"2019-10-10T23:23:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=46751"},"modified":"2019-10-15T14:12:08","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T04:12:08","slug":"asic-bans-qld-adviser-for-seven-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2019\/10\/11\/asic-bans-qld-adviser-for-seven-years\/","title":{"rendered":"ASIC Bans QLD Adviser For Seven Years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Beenleigh-based adviser, <strong>Ian Victor Haisman<\/strong>, has been banned by ASIC from providing financial services for a period of seven years, after the regulator found that Haisman failed to act in the best interests of his clients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_46088\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-46088\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2019\/08\/Danielle-Press-e1566907768772.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-46088\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2019\/08\/Danielle-Press-e1566907768772-250x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2019\/08\/Danielle-Press-e1566907768772-250x300.jpg 250w, https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2019\/08\/Danielle-Press-e1566907768772.jpg 417w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-46088\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ASIC Commissioner, Danielle Press<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">ASIC\u2019s surveillance looked at advice provided by Haisman to clients from early 2016 to early 2018 when he was an authorised representative of Bristol Street Financial Services Pty Ltd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A review of a number of Haisman\u2019s advice files revealed that he had not provided advice that was tailored to his clients\u2019 individual circumstances, needs and financial goals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In some instances, Haisman provided inappropriate advice by recommending very high levels of insurance cover compared to the clients\u2019 income or by recommending life insurance policies to clients with no known dependants and no reasonable basis for the policies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When recommending an investment strategy which involved product switching, he did not adequately investigate his clients\u2019 existing superannuation and insurance arrangements or provide product cost and risk comparisons. Instead, he used templated strategies and made recommendations that were applied regardless of his clients\u2019 personal circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFinancial advisers providing personal advice are required by law to act in the best interests of their clients.&#8221;<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">ASIC also found that Haisman failed to provide statements of advice that were clear, concise and effective to all his clients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">ASIC Commissioner, <strong>Danielle Press<\/strong> says, \u201cFinancial advisers providing personal advice are required by law to act in the best interests of their clients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cASIC expects advisers to take into account their clients\u2019 personal circumstances, needs and financial goals to ensure that the advice they provide is appropriate.
