{"id":53899,"date":"2021-01-19T14:42:58","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T04:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=53899"},"modified":"2021-01-19T14:59:13","modified_gmt":"2021-01-19T04:59:13","slug":"best-interest-advice-former-adviser-banned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2021\/01\/19\/best-interest-advice-former-adviser-banned\/","title":{"rendered":"Best Interest Advice &#8211;\u00a0 Former Adviser Banned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ASIC has banned Sydney-based financial adviser <strong>Jim Pavlidis<\/strong> from providing financial services for three years.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from ASIC says a review of Pavlidis\u2019 advice between 2004 and 2018 found that he failed to provide financial advice that was in the best interests of his clients and to keep proper records.<\/p>\n<p>It says he failed to consider the relevant circumstances of each client and left client objectives unaddressed.<\/p>\n<p>ASIC also found that Pavlidis was not adequately trained and did not have a proper understanding of the requirements to competently provide financial services.<\/p>\n<p>The commission says the banning of Pavlidis will be recorded on ASIC\u2019s publicly available <a href=\"https:\/\/moneysmart.gov.au\/financial-advice\/financial-advisers-register#_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Financial Advisers Register<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/asic.gov.au\/online-services\/search-asics-registers\/banned-and-disqualified\/#_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Banned and Disqualified Persons Register<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He has the right to appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal for a review of ASIC\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>As background ASIC states that Pavlidis began working in the financial services industry in 1986. Most recently, he was an authorised representative of Consultum Financial Advisers from January to October 2018 and Meritum Financial Group from April 2004 to January 2018.
