{"id":7315,"date":"2010-08-03T14:51:52","date_gmt":"2010-08-03T03:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=7315"},"modified":"2020-02-06T08:11:31","modified_gmt":"2020-02-05T21:11:31","slug":"adviser-associations-critical-of-mysuper-announcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2010\/08\/03\/adviser-associations-critical-of-mysuper-announcement\/","title":{"rendered":"Adviser Associations Critical of &#8216;MySuper&#8217; Announcement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Both the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fpa.asn.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FPA<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/afa.asn.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AFA<\/a>\u00a0have issued statements calling for greater consumer engagement following the Government&#8217;s confirmation that it will implement the Cooper Review&#8217;s MySuper reform proposals.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->While the FPA welcomes\u00a0the creation of efficiencies and reducing costs in Superannuation, it warns that &#8216;&#8230; greater consumer engagement and access to professional advice are vital in ensuring the adequacy of Australians&#8217; retirement income streams.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>FPA CEO, <strong>Mark Rantall<\/strong> said the retirement savings of most Australians were inadequate and professional financial advice and the creation of a savings culture was critical to the future of the Australian Superannuation system:<\/p>\n<h6>&#8220;MySuper and SuperStream will only go so far in addressing adequacy of retirement income&#8230;<\/h6>\n<p>&#8220;MySuper and SuperStream will only go so far in addressing adequacy of retirement income and reducing the burden on an ageing population. Professional financial advice should play a bigger role,&#8221; said Mr Rantall.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are concerned that Australians may be provided with a false sense of security.
