{"id":75879,"date":"2025-02-25T16:39:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-25T05:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=75879"},"modified":"2025-02-28T11:57:46","modified_gmt":"2025-02-28T00:57:46","slug":"zurich-underwriting-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2025\/02\/25\/zurich-underwriting-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Zurich Underwriting Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"header row\">\n<div class=\"intro\">\n<h3>News that Zurich has simplified its underwriting requirements for medical insurance generated lots of reader interest this week&#8230;<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>Zurich has announced it has simplified its underwriting requirements following a review with its medical experts, with changes becoming effective from 7 February.<\/p>\n<p>In an update intended for financial advisers, key changes include:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">GP medical exams replaced with express exams<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Zurich notes replacing GP medical exams with express exams means nurses can be arranged at convenient appointment times &#8220;&#8230;making it quicker and simpler for the customer to attend&#8221;, while still capturing the same key screening elements just as effectively.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">HIV and Hep B&amp; C test changes<\/span><\/p>\n<p>HIV and Hep B&amp;C have been removed from mandatory blood test requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The insurer states the incidence of HIV and Hep B &amp; C in the general population in Australia is very low, &#8220;&#8230;with ongoing advances in medical treatment only expected to further minimise incidence and severity into the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to these two initiatives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Breast exams have been replaced with mammograms, with mammograms is seen as a more favourable customer experience<\/li>\n<li>**Stress ECGs have been replaced with stress echocardiograms as these area more effective investigation than the stress ECG &#8211; especially in younger individuals, according to Zurich<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These changes were announced at the same time as the insurer released its &#8216;Flatter Pricing&#8217; premium option initiative, reported last week (see: <a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2025\/02\/18\/zurich-launches-flatter-pricing-option\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zurich Launches \u2018Flatter Pricing\u2019 Option<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Advisers can <a href=\"https:\/\/advisers.zurich.com.au\/resources\/change-navigator\/feb7-product-updates.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">click here<\/a> for more details.<\/p>\n<p>**<em>While stress echocardiography can imply which artery may be narrowing, stress ECG does not specify which coronary artery is the culprit vessel<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News that Zurich has simplified its underwriting requirements for medical insurance generated lots of reader interest this week&#8230; Zurich has announced it has simplified its underwriting requirements following a review with its medical experts, with changes becoming effective from 7 February.
