{"id":78574,"date":"2025-08-19T09:23:20","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T23:23:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=78574"},"modified":"2025-08-20T09:00:36","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T23:00:36","slug":"advisers-challenged-to-confront-their-inner-blocks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2025\/08\/19\/advisers-challenged-to-confront-their-inner-blocks\/","title":{"rendered":"Advisers Challenged to Confront Their Inner Blocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Speaking to a packed room of financial advisers at the 2025 MDRT Annual Meeting in Miami, motivational speaker <a href=\"https:\/\/kimpayne.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Kim Payne<\/strong><\/a> delivered a keynote urging advisers to recognise and overcome the three key barriers that prevent them from realising their full potential \u2013 indecision, inaction, and inhibition.<\/p>\n<p>Melbourne-based Payne began with a parable about a donkey that, unable to see the future and stuck between a bucket of water and a pile of hay, dies of thirst and hunger \u2013 paralysed by indecision.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So many of us get stuck because we\u2019re afraid of making the wrong choice,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And in doing nothing, we lose both opportunities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>You\u2019ve made the decision, but you\u2019re waiting for the \u2018right time\u2019 to act \u2013 and that time never comes&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She shared an example of indecision from a charity raffle where, as the first-prize winner, she was too slow to choose her reward \u2013 only to see the second-prize winner take the voucher she secretly wanted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Indecision cost me the prize,&#8221; she said. \u00a0&#8220;Where is indecision costing you?&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_78614\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-78614\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-78614\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-08-19-at-12.51.42-pm.png\" alt=\"Kim Payne. Motivational speaker.\" width=\"150\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-08-19-at-12.51.42-pm.png 300w, https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2025-08-19-at-12.51.42-pm-251x300.png 251w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-78614\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kim Payne presenting at the 2025 MDRT Annual Meeting in Miami.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The issue of inaction often shows up even after a decision has been made, said Payne<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve made the decision, but you\u2019re waiting for the \u2018right time\u2019 to act \u2013 and that time never comes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Addressing common internal doubts \u2013 pitched by Payne as imposter syndrome \u2013 she said 70% of people doubt their own abilities when it comes to their job.<\/p>\n<p>She told the story of a friend in financial services who landed a dream role, only to immediately feel unworthy of it.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Growth is safer and more sustainable when you do it gradually&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Her advice: \u201cIf you never do anything new, different, or challenging again \u2013 no promotions, no change \u2013 you\u2019ll never feel imposter syndrome. But if you want to grow, it comes with the territory.
