{"id":7884,"date":"2010-09-28T20:48:46","date_gmt":"2010-09-28T10:48:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=7884"},"modified":"2020-02-06T08:11:54","modified_gmt":"2020-02-05T21:11:54","slug":"hotline-to-help-stem-insurance-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2010\/09\/28\/hotline-to-help-stem-insurance-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Hotline to Help Stem Insurance Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new hotline service is to be launched later this week\u00a0to help Australians report suspected insurance fraud.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The National Insurance Fraud Hotline will be a free community service that enables the public to provide information about suspected insurance fraud, even if they do not know who the insurer is.<\/p>\n<p>While the nature of the service will accommodate many reports of fraud in relation to general insurance claims, there are key areas within the life insurance sector to which this service will cater, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Doctors participating in disability fraud<\/li>\n<li>Falsifying motor accident treatments when no real injuries exist<\/li>\n<li>Payouts for dishonestly claiming Total and Permanent Disablement benefits<\/li>\n<li>False income protection claims, particularly in relation to injury-related claims<\/li>\n<li>False death claims, including identity fraud<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Founder of the Insurance Fraud Hotline, former NSW policeman <strong>Anthony Callaghan<\/strong>, said he launched the service because he saw a clear need for a centralised reporting portal for insurance fraud and was tired of dishonest people making false claims:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime&#8230; Honest Australian policyholders are contributing about $100 each to compensate for dishonest claims,&#8221; said Mr Callaghan.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the public can call the hotline number to\u00a0report information about any kind of insurance fraud.\u00a0 The service\u00a0can\u00a0also allow people to anonymously and securely upload pictures, videos or scanned documents.<\/p>\n<p>Authorised representatives from insurance companies will have free access to the tip-off information for the purposes of their own evaluation and potential investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The National Insurance Fraud Hotline will be officially launched this Thursday 30 September.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insurancefraudhotline.com.au\/Insurance-Fraud-Hotline.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here<\/a> to visit the website.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new hotline service is to be launched later this week\u00a0to help Australians report suspected insurance fraud.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7884","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-services"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7884","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/7"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7884"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7884\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7884"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7884"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7884"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
