{"id":80937,"date":"2026-02-02T10:08:22","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T23:08:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=80937"},"modified":"2026-02-02T10:08:22","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T23:08:22","slug":"campaign-to-nominate-an-everyday-hero","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2026\/02\/02\/campaign-to-nominate-an-everyday-hero\/","title":{"rendered":"Campaign to Nominate an &#8216;Everyday Hero&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Critical Info, a social enterprise that helps people get their affairs in order, is shining a spotlight on Australia\u2019s carer community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Catherine Ashton<\/strong>, founder of the organisation, which helps people organise and clearly locate key information and end-of-life wishes, says there are more than three million carers across the country quietly providing unpaid support to ageing parents, partners, children, friends and community members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCarers are critically important to the people they support, but they are often the last to get their own affairs in order,\u201d Ashton says. \u201cAnd that can lead to serious problems for the most vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_80545\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-80545\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-80545\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2025\/12\/Catherine-Ashton-e1765231071288.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2025\/12\/Catherine-Ashton-e1765231071288.jpg 570w, https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2025\/12\/Catherine-Ashton-e1765231071288-250x300.jpg 250w, https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2025\/12\/Catherine-Ashton-e1765231071288-350x420.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-80545\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Critical Info Founder, Catherine Ashton.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Throughout February, Critical Info is calling on the community to help support 100 Australian carers, inviting <em>Riskinfo<\/em> readers to \u201cnominate an everyday hero\u201d by selecting a reward, nominating a carer they know, or sponsoring a carer through a <a href=\"https:\/\/criticalinfo.lovable.app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">donation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She says most people do not have a back-up plan \u201c\u2026which will likely come as no surprise to financial advisers\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people think about end-of-life planning in the context of ageing parents they may be caring for,\u201d Ashton says. &#8220;But what I want to get across is that an accident can happen to any of us \u2014 including the carers that families rely on. A serious accident changed my own life and showed me how quickly roles can shift.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If the unthinkable happens, those who rely on a carer can be left in a muddle&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThese are the people who know when the doctor\u2019s appointments are, when the school concert is \u2014 all the incidental information that keeps a household running smoothly and that often isn\u2019t written down or shared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the unthinkable happens, those who rely on a carer can be left in a muddle, sometimes without even knowing the person\u2019s wishes or where to find that information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ashton says the campaign recognises the vital role unpaid carers play in our communities, with funds directed to providing Critical Info planning tools for carers who would otherwise be unable to afford them.<\/p>\n<p>She says fees for using the Critical Info service are $10 a month or $99 a year.
