{"id":81198,"date":"2026-02-24T13:35:32","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T02:35:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=81198"},"modified":"2026-03-03T18:20:21","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T07:20:21","slug":"industry-debate-sharpens-focus-on-tpd-structure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2026\/02\/24\/industry-debate-sharpens-focus-on-tpd-structure\/","title":{"rendered":"Industry Debate Sharpens Focus on TPD Structure"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"header row\">\n<div class=\"intro\">\n<h3><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Last year\u2019s decision by Swiss Re to stop writing TPD in Australia has prompted renewed scrutiny of product design and the role advisers can play in shaping demand of revised products.<\/p>\n<p>During the third Zurich Sustainability Round Table, <strong>David Creaven<\/strong>, Head of Client Partnerships at SCOR Australia &amp; New Zealand, suggested Swiss Re\u2019s decision should not be viewed as an isolated outlier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis issue of sustainability across TPD, both across the retail and the group space, is something that a number of reinsurers and direct insurers have been agitating for,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;there&#8217;s enough insurers so that they&#8217;ll figure it out&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Eugene Ardino<\/strong>, CEO, Lifespan, took a more sanguine approach.<\/p>\n<p>During the debate he said: \u201cThe market will sort itself out because it&#8217;s a competitive marketplace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s not doing it in the best possible way because it&#8217;s jacking up premiums to quite high levels, but that&#8217;s the way the market&#8217;s currently sorting it out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn&#8217;t mean you can\u2019t collaborate, and I get that there&#8217;s anti-competitive rules, but there&#8217;s enough insurers so that they&#8217;ll figure it out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve seen a lot of this in the PI market for financial planning.
