{"id":81897,"date":"2026-04-02T13:32:39","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T02:32:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=81897"},"modified":"2026-04-08T14:53:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T04:53:02","slug":"faaa-chair-reflects-on-three-years-since-afa-fpa-merger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2026\/04\/02\/faaa-chair-reflects-on-three-years-since-afa-fpa-merger\/","title":{"rendered":"FAAA Chair Reflects on Three Years Since AFA\u2013FPA Merger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three years on from the AFA\u2013FPA merger that formed the FAAA, Chair <strong>David Sharpe<\/strong> is pleased the organisation has quickly found its feet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur communities have come together to create grassroots events and connections for members right across the country,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe release the <a href=\"https:\/\/faaa.au\/strategic-priorities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2030 Strategic vision<\/a> and the Policy Platform at Congress 2024 consolidated what the FAAA stands for and what it hopes to achieve.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73601\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73601\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-73601\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2024\/10\/david-sharpe-e1728415847615.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2024\/10\/david-sharpe-e1728415847615.jpg 359w, https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2024\/10\/david-sharpe-e1728415847615-250x300.jpg 250w, https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2024\/10\/david-sharpe-e1728415847615-351x420.jpg 351w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73601\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">David Sharpe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sharpe pointed to challenges such as CSLR levies and confusion over AML, saying the benefit of a professional voice speaking for members has never been more important.<\/p>\n<p>Some key milestones for the FAAA include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The launch of an Advice Academy and the Advice Ambassadors program in 2025<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"ts90v9\" data-start=\"855\" data-end=\"1025\">The signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2024 with FPSB India to promote cross-border mobility and professional development for CFP aspirants and professionals<\/li>\n<li>The 2024 launch of a campaign promoting professional financial advice, an upgraded Find a Planner tool, and the launch of its Careers Centre<\/li>\n<li>The ATO\u2019s 2024 decision to allow greater deductions of upfront financial advice fees following FAAA lobbying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>We are proud to represent professional financial advisers&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Looking back FAAA CEO <strong>Sarah Abood<\/strong> says the overwhelming vote to merge the two associations was a strong endorsement.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75332\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75332\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-75332\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2025\/01\/Sarah-Abood.jpeg\" alt=\"Sarah Abood.\" width=\"150\" height=\"180\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75332\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sarah Abood.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;Almost 97 per cent of members who voted across both heritage associations supported the move,&#8221;
