{"id":82304,"date":"2026-05-06T10:36:45","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T00:36:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=82304"},"modified":"2026-05-13T10:10:02","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T00:10:02","slug":"mulino-signals-next-phase-of-advice-reform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2026\/05\/06\/mulino-signals-next-phase-of-advice-reform\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister Signals Next Phase of Advice Reform"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_82376\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82376\" style=\"width: 572px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-82376\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2026\/05\/1778106258635-e1778630870370.jpeg\" alt=\"Daniel Mulino, Assistant Treasurer, speaking at FAAA conference 2026, Melbourne.\" width=\"572\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2026\/05\/1778106258635-e1778630870370.jpeg 572w, https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2026\/05\/1778106258635-e1778630870370-300x177.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 572px) 100vw, 572px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82376\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Daniel Mulino speaking at the FAAA&#8217;s 2026 Conference, Melbourne.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Assistant Treasurer and Financial Services Minister, <strong>Daniel Mulino<\/strong>, reaffirmed the Government\u2019s focus on expanding access to financial advice, signalling further regulatory and education reforms as a growing number of Australians approach retirement.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the Melbourne leg of the FAAA&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/faaa.au\/roadshow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">roadshow <\/a>event series, Mulino told attendees that improving the availability of advice was a priority, alongside maintaining appropriate consumer protections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very conscious that what you do is critical to people in terms of getting good lifetime outcomes,\u201d he said, noting the increasing importance of advice as the population ages.<\/p>\n<p>Mulino pointed to ongoing consultations, including on the CSLR, and\u00a0reforms aimed at boosting adviser numbers, including changes to education pathways, as well as a series of ongoing consultations across the regulatory framework.<\/p>\n<p>These include work on compensation arrangements and broader consumer protection settings, which he said the government was approaching \u201cholistically\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He also acknowledged the role of the FAAA in shaping policy, describing it as \u201ca really effective organisation\u201d and an important voice for the profession.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;We are in a very uncertain period when it comes to the macroeconomy&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Beyond the advice sector, Mulino framed the upcoming federal budget (Tuesday 12 May) against a backdrop of global economic uncertainty, citing geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are in a very uncertain period when it comes to the macroeconomy,\u201d he said, adding that repeated global shocks \u2013 from the global financial crisis to Covid-19 \u2013 had reinforced the need to strengthen economic resilience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be some issues relating to intergenerational fairness in this budget,\u201d he said, with some measures expected to flow through the tax system.<\/p>\n<p>Mulino wouldn&#8217;t take questions from the floor, but offered to answer individual questions over lunch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Assistant Treasurer and Financial Services Minister, Daniel Mulino, reaffirmed the Government\u2019s focus on expanding access to financial advice, signalling further regulatory and education reforms as a growing number of Australians approach retirement.
