{"id":82781,"date":"2026-06-12T10:52:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T00:52:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=82781"},"modified":"2026-06-12T10:52:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T00:52:16","slug":"adviser-numbers-fall-by-439-in-12-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2026\/06\/12\/adviser-numbers-fall-by-439-in-12-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Adviser Numbers Fall by 439 in 12 Months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australia&#8217;s financial adviser population stands at 15,120, down 439 over the 12 months to 11 June 2026, according to analysis of official data by Padua Wealth.<\/p>\n<p>The figures suggest the long-running decline in adviser numbers may be beginning to moderate, with adviser numbers broadly stable since mid-January.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the annual decline was concentrated in several distinct periods, including adviser departures around the end of the 2024-25 financial year and the introduction of new education requirements at the start of this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key adviser numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advisers as at 11 June 2026: 15,120<\/li>\n<li>Advisers as at 11 June 2025: 15,559<\/li>\n<li>Net change over 12 months: -439<\/li>\n<li>Financial year-to-date change: -49<\/li>\n<li>New entrants who commenced and remain on the ASIC Financial Advisers Register: 546<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Colin Williams<\/strong>, Padua Wealth Data Manager, said: \u201cAdviser numbers fell by 374 during the final two weeks of June 2025 as many exited the industry or prepared to move licensees.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_57476\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-57476\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-57476\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2021\/09\/Colin-Williams.jpg\" alt=\"Colin Williams, Wealth Data Insights.\" width=\"150\" height=\"180\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-57476\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Colin Williams.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe first two weeks of July 2025 saw a partial recovery of 163 advisers, although the four-week transition period still resulted in a net decline of 211.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Data shows that from 1 July to 15 December 2025, adviser numbers increased by a net 219 before falling by 330 between 15 December 2025 and 15 January 2026 following the introduction of new education requirements.\u00a0 Since mid-January, numbers have increased by 32 advisers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Limited-advice sector drives losses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Williams said the largest contributor to the industry&#8217;s decline was the accounting-based limited-advice segment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLicensees providing limited or restricted SMSF advice recorded a net loss of 281 advisers during the year, representing about 63 per cent of the total market decline,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The sector accounted for less than 3% of advisers at the beginning of the period, with 445 advisers as at 11 June 2025. Just 164 advisers remain in the segment.<\/p>\n<p>Williams said adviser numbers were likely to remain volatile through the end of June and into July.<\/p>\n<p>He said key factors to watch included further departures from the remaining accounting limited-advice cohort, adviser retirements, licensee switches and ongoing consolidation among smaller licensees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Licensee movements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The number of licensees also declined over the year.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New licensees established: 100<\/li>\n<li>Licensees ceased: 120<\/li>\n<li>Net change: -20<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Among the 100 new licensees:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>61 have a single adviser<\/li>\n<li>19 have two advisers<\/li>\n<li>14 have three to four advisers<\/li>\n<li>Six have between five and nine advisers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australia&#8217;s financial adviser population stands at 15,120, down 439 over the 12 months to 11 June 2026, according to analysis of official data by Padua Wealth.
