{"id":83200,"date":"2026-07-16T12:43:02","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T02:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=83200"},"modified":"2026-07-16T12:43:02","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T02:43:02","slug":"faaa-warns-adviser-levies-could-top-5000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2026\/07\/16\/faaa-warns-adviser-levies-could-top-5000\/","title":{"rendered":"FAAA Warns Adviser Levies Could Top $5,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The FAAA says financial advisers could face higher Government levies this financial following a 27% increase in the ASIC funding levy and the recently announced CSLR special levy.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, FAAA CEO <strong>Sarah Abood<\/strong> said the ASIC funding levy for 2025\/26 is $3,037 per adviser, plus the CSLR special levy totalling $170.3m.<\/p>\n<p>Abood said advisers could collectively pay an additional $20m on top of the $20m base levy, potentially pushing adviser levies to $5,000.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This increased ASIC funding levy is against a backdrop of record levels of fines&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;The most significant driver of this year\u2019s increase in the ASIC funding levy is higher enforcement costs,&#8221; said Abood.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However, the information provided by ASIC has no meaningful explanation of the reasons for this increase or where the $24 million cost of enforcement was spent.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75332\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75332\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-75332\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2025\/01\/Sarah-Abood.jpeg\" alt=\"Sarah Abood.\" width=\"150\" height=\"180\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75332\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sarah Abood.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis increased ASIC funding levy is against a backdrop of record levels of fines awarded by the courts with respect to cases brought by ASIC \u2013 over $800 million.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Abood said the FAAA continues to argue that the fines collected as a result of ASIC\u2019s pursuit of wrongdoers should be used to offset the ASICl and CSLR Levies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is unreasonable for the financial advice profession to fund this enforcement activity, when all fines are paid straight to consolidated revenue for the benefit of the Government,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We repeat our previous calls for improved transparency from ASIC on how it allocates costs, and for Treasury\u2019s recommendations for changes to the ASIC industry funding model \u2013 handed down in June 2023 \u2013 to be implemented.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>See: <a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2026\/05\/20\/cali-urges-government-to-share-cslr-burden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CALI Urges Government to Share CSLR Burden<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The FAAA says financial advisers could face higher Government levies this financial following a 27% increase in the ASIC funding levy and the recently announced CSLR special levy.
