{"id":9582,"date":"2011-03-08T23:15:52","date_gmt":"2011-03-08T12:15:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/?p=9582"},"modified":"2021-01-13T06:35:17","modified_gmt":"2021-01-12T20:35:17","slug":"should-australia-follow-europes-unisex-rates-lead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/2011\/03\/08\/should-australia-follow-europes-unisex-rates-lead\/","title":{"rendered":"Should Australia Follow Europe&#8217;s &#8216;Unisex&#8217; Rates Lead?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/polls\/should-australia-ban-malefemale-insurance-rates\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1228           aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0px\" src=\"https:\/\/riskinfo.com.au\/news\/files\/2009\/05\/vote-now.jpg\" alt=\"Vote Now!\" width=\"108\" height=\"47\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The recent announcement\u00a0that Europe and the UK must switch to unisex insurance rates for all consumers is the catalyst for our latest riskinfo poll, where we ask:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Should Australia follow Europe&#8217;s lead in\u00a0banning Male\/Female insurance\u00a0rates in favour of &#8216;unisex&#8217; rates?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The argument in favour of banning specific male and female life insurance rates is a philosophical argument tied to a move away from any social discrimination based on gender.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Following the insurance judgement by the European Court of Justice on 1 March 2011, the European Commission responded\u00a0in part:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230; <em>it is now clear that an insurance company must not distinguish between women and men; all customers must be treated equally.
