Fresh from the Technology Mic-drop session delivered to a packed room of advisers at the 2024 FAAA Congress last week, our latest poll explores one of the numerous issues flagged for advisers during that session, namely the security of your clients’ data.
Speaking in support of the value of managing client relationships via portals, Hub24 and My Prosperity exec, Greg Hansen, noted one of the critically-important purposes served by client portals was the enhanced level of client data security that comes with such services.
Hansen referenced recent findings released by the Australian Signals Directorate (a Government body whose public statements are usually taken very seriously) that email platforms offer a soft underbelly for cyber-criminal behaviours (see: Advisers Cautioned on Email Security).
With emails occupying an almost universal presence in both our personal and business lives in the 21st Century, perhaps it’s a challenge for some (or many) individuals and business owners to place this ubiquitous communication process to one side in favour of what’s promoted as a more efficient and much more secure client communication option, namely client portals.
Is this your firm’s experience? Have you established that your email system represents the best opportunity for criminal elements to compromise the security of your sensitive client and business data? Or do you have a different perspective? Have you found your email system to have always been well protected and secure? Do you utilise client portals a little or a lot?
Tell us what you think and we’ll share the results next week…
