A contingent of Australian advisers joined around 5,000 of their peers from 53 countries attending the much-anticipated 2026 MDRT Annual Meeting in Anaheim, California last week.

There were multiple Australian advisers speaking at the four-day event, including Guy Mankey who delivered a Main Platform ‘MDRT Speaks’ address entitled “No, I can’t do that”.

When a client decides to cancel insurance, Mankey says, the answer should always start with, ‘No, I can’t do that.’ He explained the importance of those words, the business retained, the claims paid and the lives saved because he said ‘no’.

Another Australian adviser, Phil Thompson, presented a Focus Session at the event, looking at “Finding your niche: How focus ignited 24x growth”.

He noted that most advisors think more services means more growth, but often it just means more stress. He discussed how narrowing his focus to one niche (insurance-only advice) turned a struggling business into one that grew 24x in six years.

Other AU advisers sharing their experience with their peers at MDRT included NSW adviser Victor Idoko, who presented in MDRT’s ConneXion Zone addressing “From solo advisor to legacy enterprise: How to build a team that can 10x revenue without compromising purpose”.

Meanwhile, Bob Nixon spoke on “Succession planning with a twist”, also in the ConneXion Zone.

If there is interest among Australian advisers in experiencing the value the MDRT organisation seeks to deliver advisers around the world, its 2027 Global Conference is taking place in Sydney this year at the ICC, from 23 – 26 August.

Unlike the North American Annual Meetings, the annual MDRT Global Conference is open to any financial adviser to attend, regardless of whether they are qualifying members of MDRT.
