Ballots for State Directors in Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania will not be required as James Ford (WA) and Dave Slovinec (SA) were the only nominees in those states and will therefore be elected unopposed while Matthew Hawkins (Tas) has one more year to run on his two-year term.

Departing Board members are National President Deborah Kent who concludes her two-year term in that role (and has nominated for Treasurer), Treasurer Steve Crawford and Victorian State Director Chris Browne.

On-line voting is open from 1 September to 15 September with AFA members able to vote for each National position, and the State Director role for their state.

Normally, the successful candidates are declared at the AFA’s Annual General Meeting, which is traditionally conducted at its annual National Adviser Conference, being held this year in Canberra from 5 – 7 October. Due to the elevated interest in this year’s Board elections, however, there is a possibility that the outcome of the voting will be released at some point prior to the commencement of the Association’s 2016 Conference.

  1. The AFA Board still can’t explain why they are supporting LIF for any reason let alone what is in it for consumers The AFA Board continues to actively promote the destruction of Advisers income, changing the constitution gives THE MEMBERS a safety net that will stop future Boards gambling away their livelihoods ever again!

Imagine where we would be right now if the LIF had come into effect on 1 July – right now, a two-year clawback and well on our way to 20% in 2019 and consumers having vertically integrated product rammed down their throats; all thanks to the dogged support of the AFA.

Can someone tell me anything that the AFA has actually done for its members?

We need new blood in the AFA, we need an AFA Board that are not just lapdogs of the FSC. We need Board members that stand up for the AFA members, otherwise what have we paying our fees for?

    • Margaret, I encourage you to make contact with myself if you would like to discuss all the things the AFA has actually done for its members. Please contact AFA head office to request my number and I would be happy to discuss with you the list of things the current AFA board has done on behalf of its members. Matthew Hawkins AFA State Director Tasmania
