MLC Life Insurance has named a new Head of Underwriting after looking to Asia to make the appointment.
The life insurer stated that HSBC Hong Kong Chief Underwriter, Mick Jones would join its ranks in August and report to Chief Underwriting Officer, Debbie Kennedy.
Jones will oversee the performance of MLC Life’s underwriting team and will also be involved in enhancing its new digital underwriting platform to improve it use for advisers and make it easier for applicants to get cover.
He has been with HSBC since December 2013 and prior to taking on the role as Chief Underwriter he was Head of Life Underwriting and Operations, and prior to that he was Regional Chief Underwriter Asia for Reinsurance Group of America. Jones has also held roles AIG, Swiss Re and National Mutual Life Assurance.
Kennedy said Jones joins MLC Life Insurance as it began ‘a new era’ of underwriting and his experience “…will be invaluable as we seek to bring this important function into the digital age, develop our team and provide a more streamlined and efficient process for customers and advisers.”
Jones said he was excited about the direction of underwriting innovation within MLC Life Insurance under majority ownership of Nippon Life adding, “They want to take underwriting out of the back office and move it to the front office, supported by the use of data and analytics”.
