MLC Life has named a new Chief Underwriter as part of a round of appointments aimed at expanding the operational capability of the life insurer.
The life insurer promoted former Head of Underwriting, Mick Jones, into the role after the former Chief Underwriter Debbie Kennedy was appointed into a new role of General Manager, Business Architecture and Change.
Jones joined MLC Life in August of this year from HSBC Hong Kong, where he was Chief Underwriter (see: MLC Life Appoints New Head of Underwriting) and will be succeeded in his former role by Gary Oberg who moves across from his role as Head of Underwriting Strategy and Governance.
The internal moves are part of a series of wider shifts in which Head of Digital, Tim Roso has been appointed as General Manager Digital, Innovation and Ventures and Michael Tobin, Chief of Staff to Chief Executive, David Hackett, has been named as General Manager, Transformation and Portfolio Management.
MLC Life also announced the appointment of a new Chief Information Officer, Nish Chandran, who will oversee the technology development that will transition the insurer from NAB’s systems onto new, stand-alone infrastructure. Chandran joins from credit and payment processing firm, First Data where he holds the role of Chief Information Officer and Vice President – Information Technology.
Also joining MLC Life is Darren Klein who will take on the role of General Manager of Data and Analytics and oversee the insurer’s strategy for data governance, analytics and data insights, and establishing a stronger data-driven culture for customers. He will be joined by Fleur Edgerton who has been named as General Manager of Sourcing and Partnerships with responsibility for strengthening MLC Life’s commercial and supplier management functions.
Chandran and Klein will join MLC Life in February 2019, while Edgerton will start a month earlier and all three will report directly to MLC Life Chief Innovation and Transformation Officer, Sarv Girn.
