In an election year, the AFA’s Government and Policy Committee is offering advisers an opportunity to hear from key political figures at two Sydney events over the coming weeks.

On April 20, Shadow Treasurer, Joe Hockey, will address advisers on the topic: The economic and political outlook for the financial services industry (the Opposition’s perspective).

Mr Hockey will discuss:

  • His insight into the Parliamentary Joint Committee Inquiry into Financial Products and Services (the Ripoll Inquiry)
  • His key areas of concern and how these can be addressed in the 2010 federal budget

On 18 May, in a post 2010 budget review, the Minister for Financial Services, Superannuation and Corporate Law, and Human Services, Chris Bowen, will talk to advisers on the topic of: The future of financial advice in Australia and federal budget review.

Mr Bowen will cover issues including:

  • The Government’s view on the current state and future direction of the financial advisory profession
  • His insight into the Ripoll Inquiry
  • The economic and political outlook for the Financial Services industry
  • His key areas of concern and how these can/will be addressed in the 2010 federal budget

Both these events are luncheon functions, being held beside Sydney’s Darling Harbour, and each will feature open forum Q & A opportunities for advisers looking for answers.
