News of a fresh option for those seeking entry to the financial advice sector engaged with many Riskinfo readers this week, with this initiative from Kaplan intended to bolster the industry’s talent pool of paraplanners – and to potentially act as a training ground for future advisers…

A newly-launched course is set to provide an alternative pathway for those who want to enter the industry and eventually become a financial adviser.

Kaplan Professional has launched a dedicated paraplanning course which it sees as suitable for both existing and new paraplanners, and for those seeking a pathway into the financial advice industry.

Kaplan Professional CEO Brian Knight says the course had been developed based on extensive feedback from corporate clients and insights from a number of experienced industry professionals.

Brian Knight…hopes the course will be of significant benefit to the industry.

He says the industry is focused on supplementing its talent pool over the coming years, “…so this course will provide an accessible and suitable pathway for those who want to enter the industry and eventually become a financial adviser.”

Knight says the licensees and financial advisers it works with have been eager for a dedicated program that addresses the needs of the modern paraplanner:

“The rigorous program offers a benchmark qualification that provides formal recognition of the highly skilled and valuable role of the paraplanner.”

He says Kaplan hopes the course will be of significant benefit to the industry because it enables individuals to develop in-depth knowledge and technical skills, “…as well as the ability to support financial planning practices in developing and maintaining compliant back-office procedures.”

The course also provides a pathway into higher education qualifications such as Kaplan Professional’s postgraduate financial planning courses and its Business School’s undergraduate courses.

The company says the online and purpose-built vocational education course, called FNS60920 Advanced Diploma of Paraplanning, is designed to provide individuals with a comprehensive range of financial planning services across a range of product environments, “…involving complex issues requiring innovative strategies.”

Specialist Knowledge and Practical Skills Preparing Financial Plans

The  Advanced Diploma is structured into four subjects, including:

  • Financial Planning Fundamentals
  • Research, Analysis and Product Recommendations
  • Present, Implement and Assess the Financial Plan
  • Develop Complex (Multi-Strategy) Advice

Enrolments are open now and individuals can commence the course at any time.
