Our latest poll results suggest general approval from the adviser community for the name of the proposed association that would be created by a merged AFA and FPA.

As we go to print, six in 10 advisers think the ‘Financial Advice Association’ is a good name which appropriately respects the heritage of both organisations. Around one in four (27%) disagree, however, with the remainder undecided at the moment.

This conversation will become irrelevant if the proposed merger between the two associations does not eventuate. If members vote in favour, however, it appears – as can be the case for many issues and debates – the majority of what will be a combined member community will be happy with then new name, but it clearly won’t be universally embraced.

In similar circumstances a few years ago, the two main adviser associations in New Zealand – The Professional Advisers Association and the Institute of Financial Advisers – joined forces to become Financial Advice New Zealand.

Clearly, ‘Financial Advice Australia’ isn’t getting a run on this side of the Tasman, but we welcome your further views on the proposed name of ‘Financial Advice Association of Australia Limited’, developed following extensive member consultation, as our poll remains open for another week…
