CALI has named the five female financial risk advisers who are the recipients of its inaugural program, ReCALIbrate: a chance for women to reshape life insurance.

Christine Cupitt …ReCALIbrate aims to promote more diversity among financial advisers

The program will provide $2,000 grants to the five mid-career, female financial risk advisers to attend the FAAA Congress in November 2023 in Adelaide.

The 2023 ReCALIbrate recipients are:

    • Trish Gregory, Fox and Hare Financial Advice
    • Kirsten Genter, Zurich Assure
    • Adele Martin, Adele Martin – Money Mentor
    • Asha Burrows, Platinum Financial Planning
    • Azaria Bell, Skye Wealth

Christine Cupitt, CEO at CALI, says the organisation is committed to supporting a vibrant and sustainable industry and addressing the decreasing number of financial advisers in Australia.

“ReCALIbrate aims to promote more diversity among financial advisers so that consumers receive appropriate advice that is relevant to them.”

She says CALI is pleased to provide these grants “…to five deserving and inspirational women. We are confident that the ReCALIbrate recipients will find the FAAA Congress engaging and informative and will leverage their knowledge for the benefit of their clients and team members.”

Cupitt notes that through research conducted by CALI on behalf of its members “…it is clear that women have unique advice needs and having a financial adviser that understands their circumstances and needs is crucial to effective and impactful advice.”

…risk specialists have an important role in the life insurance ecosystem…

Nadine Gooderick …women have historically been under-represented in our industry

CALI Board Member and Managing Director of Clearview Wealth, Nadine Gooderick, notes that risk specialists “…have an important role in the life insurance ecosystem, so it is important that we foster the next generation of talent.”

She says this will ensure that consumers understand their life insurance needs, secure adequate cover and, at claim time, get benefits paid.

“Women have historically been under-represented in our industry and at industry conferences more broadly, which are important events for education, network and inspiration.”

FAAA CEO Sarah Abood adds that with a shared desire to encourage engagement among female financial risk advisers and foster the next generation of female talent, the FAAA is pleased to support the ReCALIbrate program and looks forward to welcoming the recipients to its Congress.

Recipient winner, Trish Gregory, told Riskinfo this scholarship represents such a great opportunity to attend the FAAA Congress in a way that will not have an adverse impact on her personal budget. As the primary income earner in her family, Gregory says every single dollar she doesn’t have to spend to attend industry events is wonderful.

She added she is looking forward to connecting with her peers at the FAAA Congress – both newer entrants into the sector as well as with her more experienced peers from whom she can continue learning.

To ensure women continue to engage with the industry and benefit beyond the event, each of the five recipients will also be paired with a senior female life insurance industry leader to have two in-person or virtual meetings, to provide a forum for mentorship, learning, support and advice.

Cupitt noted that CALI would like to expand the ReCALIbrate program into next year “…so that we can help more women attend industry conferences and connect with their professional community and engage at industry level with the issues that are affecting them and their profession.”
