The Financial Planning Association (FPA) will open its online financial advice service, ‘Ask an Expert’, from Monday 23 May as part of its annual Financial Planning Week initiative.

The FPA says its ‘Ask an Expert’ initiative enables consumers to experience the benefits of seeking expert advice for free. To participate, consumers visit the ‘Ask an Expert’ website and email through their question to one of a panel of planners, who will then reply directly.

FPA CEO, Mark Rantall, said that ‘Ask an Expert’ has in the past been one of the FPA’s most popular and successful initiatives.  According to Mr Rantall, financial planners responded to a total of 430 questions last year, over a five-week period.  He said he expected another significant increase in uptake this year.

“‘Ask an Expert’ is a safe, easy way for ordinary Australians to put their toe in the water of expert advice, without obligation, so they can see for themselves exactly the kind of scope, breadth and depth of expertise our members can offer them,” said Mr Rantall.

“Whether it’s about their super, dealing with debt, investing in property or saving for the future, our experts can help out.  It’s a great opportunity to demonstrate exactly what we do and how important financial advice is for everyone – not just those with dollars to spare.”

The FPA says over 170 of its member financial planners from across the 32 FPA chapters will be on board to answer questions through the ‘Ask an Expert’ service, which finishes on 1 July 2011.
