Kirwan will be working with the FSC and its member life insurance firms to implement the Australian Life Insurance Code of Practice, which becomes mandatory for all member firms from 1 July this year.

Ten years ago, Kirwan was instrumental in his capacity as the public face of the British life insurance sector in delivering a positive insurance advice message to the broader community at a time when the UK life insurance industry was experiencing significant negative publicity.

Kirwan will also be working with the industry to assist in the implementation and ongoing management of the minimum standard definitions that will apply to the ‘big three’ critical illness events of heart attack, stroke and cancer.

Prior to joining the FSC, Kirwan, who emigrated to Australia two years ago, has worked in product-related capacities with MLC Life Insurance and MetLife.

His appointment coincides with the FSC’s 2017 Life Insurance Conference taking place in Sydney later this week, preceded by the FSC’s Life Insurance Industry Awards gala dinner event.
