The former associate director of wealth management advisory at KPMG Australia, Benjamin Marshan, has joined the Financial Planning Association as its professional standards and advocacy manager.

Marshan moves into the FPA role after a year with KPMG which was preceded by four years with StatePlus (formerly State Super Financial Services) where he held the role of manager of advice support.

The addition of Marshan follows the recent announcement that FPA chief executive Mark Rantall will stand down in early 2016 and be replaced by current FPA director of policy Dante De Gori.

The Commonwealth Bank has appointed former Hillross Financial Services managing director Hugh Humphrey as General Manager, Bank Financial Planning with oversight of the Commonwealth Financial Planning and BW Financial Advice planning groups.

Humphrey will start in the newly created role in early February 2016 and was recruited from AMP where he was director, strategy & transformation for the Advice, AMP Bank & Corporate Super Business since January 2014. Prior to that role he was the Managing Director, Hillross Financial Services from September 2010 to January 2014.

His appointment accompanies that of the first independent Chair to the Boards of Commonwealth Bank Advice Companies replacing the incumbent – Commonwealth Bank Wealth Management Group Executive, Annabel Spring.

Spring will serve as a board director while Anne Templeman-Jones will take on the role of Chair of the Boards of the Commonwealth Financial Planning, BW Financial Advice, Financial Wisdom and Count Financial advice groups.

Templeman-Jones has worked in a number of senior management and Board roles across financial services organisations in corporate and institutional banking, wealth and private banking and risk management and has advised Westpac, ANZ and Bank of New Zealand, TAL Superannuation and Cuscal.

NAB Wealth has named experienced financial services executive Charles Smith as its Business Growth Manager, Strategic Alliances & Growth.

Smith will move across from ING Direct where he held the role of key account manager, wealth – third party distribution. Prior to this he has held senior roles at One Path, ANZ Funds Management, Citibank and ANZ Banking Group during his 25 years in the wealth management industry.
