New CommInsure Campaign Targeting Smokers

AIA Australia’s CommInsure brand is trialling a new initiative targeting insured smokers.

The new service revolves around a text messaging campaign which promotes the savings policy holders could make if they (or the insured life under the policy) have given up smoking, including e-cigarettes, and haven’t used a nicotine-replacement product during the last 12 months or more.

Intended as an example of how CommInsure is helping clients to live healthier, longer, better lives, the campaign trial will be testing two different SMS messages designed to help as many of the insurer’s 10,000+ smoking clients as possible.

An adviser release last week noted smoker clients will be contacted just before they reach a policy anniversary:

…premiums may reduce by as much as 40 per cent

“If your client has stopped smoking tobacco or any other substance, and has not used a product containing nicotine or used an e-Cigarette or related device during the last 12 months, and they complete a non-smoker declaration, then their premiums may reduce by as much as 40 per cent.”

CommInsure says it will be testing the two different SMS messages during October and November 2020 and if judged a success it will continue until the end of the year.

The release notes that if a client has not smoked or used a nicotine product during the last 12 months or more, they can contact CommInsure where its customer service team will clarify their eligibility to have their smoking status reviewed before underwriters determine whether the client is eligible for non-smoking premium rates.

Advisers are encouraged to contact the CommInsure Retail Distribution team if they have any questions.
