CALI Poll Result – Will Actions Speak?

0
Do you support the formation of the Council of Australian Life Insurers and its agenda to represent the collective voice of Australia’s life insurance industry?
  • Yes (52%)
  • Not sure yet (27%)
  • No (21%)

One take on our latest poll result can lead us to conclude that the proof of the pudding will be in the eating when it comes to the level of support that will flow to Australia’s new life insurance industry peak body, CALI (see: New Life Insurance Peak Body Announced).

As we publish, support for the formation of the Council of Australian Life Insurance and its agenda to represent the collective voice of Australia’s life insurance sector sits at 46%, with 30% against and around one in four advisers (24%) on the fence.

We could apply different emphases to these numbers. For example, we could proclaim seven in ten advisers either support CALI and its agenda or are not sure yet. On the other hand, we could equally declare that over half of those taking this poll either reject CALI or can’t decide.

…as far as future support for CALI is concerned – its actions may speak louder than its words

These different interpretations or emphases are made possible by the large number of undecided votes we’ve received, which indicates to us that – as far as future support for CALI is concerned – its actions may speak louder than its words. That is, many advisers and other stakeholders may be reserving their future support for the peak body based around what it will actually do, rather than on what it says it will do.

Riskinfo looks forward to reporting the official launch of CALI later in the year, including the recruitment of its chief executive – a critical appointment – and the make-up of the senior life company executive group that will comprise its board.

In the meantime, our poll remans open for another week as we welcome your votes and your considered thoughts…
