Insurers Back Health Initiatives

AIA Australia and Zurich are among the insurers going the extra mile to help support their customers and the wider community.

AIA’s CancerAid programme, which has been supporting its life policy holders for four years, has now been extended to its health customers.

Last year, 162,000 new cases of cancer were expected to be diagnosed in Australia, and while cancer survivorship is improving, side effects from treatment can last long after it has been completed.

The new partnership between AIA Health and CancerAid will mean customers diagnosed with cancer can access Cancer Coach – an educational, behavioural change program which supports people living with cancer to take back control of their cancer care, in the hope of achieving more favourable outcomes.

The firm says patients in the programme are 73% more likely to return to work, while 39% report improvement of their symptoms. In addition, patients return to work on average 16.5 weeks earlier than those receiving regular care alone.

Zurich Tackle Your Feelings Initiative

Elsewhere, Zurich has marked the launch of the 2023 Tackle Your Feelings season, with an independent evaluation by Monash University demonstrating the positive impact and success of the mental wellbeing program.

Founded in 2018 by Zurich Insurance, the Z Zurich Foundation, the AFL Coaches Association, and the AFL Players’ Association, Tackle Your Feelings is a free mental health education and awareness program delivered by accredited psychologists and offered to the coaches, members, and staff of local AFL community clubs.

Since its inception, the program has impacted the lives of thousands of Australians through its delivery across 850 community clubs, with more than 145,000 players benefiting from their leaders completing the program.

Linda Griffin, Head of Brand, Marketing & Corporate Affairs, Zurich Australia & New Zealand and Tackle Your Feelings Steering Committee Chair says there has never been a more important time to prioritise mental health education and support initiatives that improve awareness in the community.
