Meet the Minister for Financial Services

Dr Daniel Mulino is the newly appointed Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services in the Australian Federal Government.

Before entering federal politics, he served in the Victorian Legislative Council from 2014 to 2018. He was elected to the House of Representatives as the Member for Fraser (Victoria) in 2019.

Early in his career, Dr Mulino worked as a graduate lawyer at the Attorney-General’s Department and the Department of Finance. His career has focused on public policy, particularly law, finance, and economics.

He holds a Master of Economics from the University of Sydney and a PhD in Economics from Yale University.

He has taught economics at university level and worked as an economic adviser and consultant across both public and private sectors.

In the federal parliament, Dr Mulino has played an active role in shaping economic and financial policy.

He has chaired the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics and served on the Joint Statutory Committee on Corporations and Financial Services, where he contributed to the oversight of Australia’s financial sector regulation.

In 2005 he wrote The Macroeconomics of Aging: The impact of an aging society on capital deepening and international factor flows, and in 2022 the paper back Safety net: the future of welfare in Australia, which looks to the challenges facing today’s welfare state.
